How does the outdoor fruit fly trap work?

The outdoor fruit fly trap uses a species-specific food lure that draws fruit flies in through small entry holes. Once inside they can't escape and drown in the lure. It targets the species that attack ripening fruit in the garden — not the common indoor fruit fly — so it's the right tool for protecting trees, vines and veggie patches.

Where should I hang my outdoor fruit fly trap?

Hang it in or near the trees and crops you want to protect — about 1.5 metres high and on the shady side, out of direct wind. Put it up before fruit starts to ripen so you catch the first wave of flies. Move it closer to ripening fruit as the season progresses for the best protection.

What lure do I use in the outdoor fruit fly trap?

Use the GotchaPest outdoor fruit fly refill lure, which is matched to the species that attack garden fruit. Top up the liquid so it stays a couple of centimetres deep and refresh it every 2–3 weeks through the season. Don't use sweet wine or cider vinegar — that attracts the indoor fruit fly, not the orchard pest.
