It is easy to make a trap cheap somewhere else. We chose to make ours here, out of a material that lasts in our weather — because a trap that fails after one summer is not really reusable.

We turned an empty bottle into the trap
Most traps are a bottle of single-use plastic you throw out when it is empty. Ours is different: the hard part lasts, and the part that would be waste is something you already had at home.
Reuses your own bottles
The trap takes the empty plastic drink bottle you already have. One less thing in the bin — and the trap has a free body.
Refillable, not throwaway
When the lure runs down you refill it, you do not bin the whole trap. Over a season that is a lot of plastic that never gets made.
An honest little nudge
We are not going to save the planet with a fly trap. But reusing what is already here, instead of making more, is a step in the right direction.
