German Wasp Traps
Bee-safe, reusable traps that draw foraging German wasps off your food — and cross-links to identification and nest safety guidance.
The German wasp (Vespula germanica) is one of New Zealand's most widespread and aggressive garden wasps. Brought here by accident, it has spread across the country and — alongside the common wasp — built some of the highest wasp densities recorded anywhere in the world in our honeydew beech forests.
A bee-safe GotchaPest wasp trap baited with a sweet fermenting liquid draws foraging German wasps away from your food and seating while leaving bees alone. UV-tough for our harsh sun, it empties and refills from the pantry season after season — no chemicals, no single-use plastic.

Our german wasp traps

Fast, safe, and seriously effective — NZ-made wasp trap that protects pollinators.
The German wasp in New Zealand
The German wasp (Vespula germanica) is one of the two Vespula species that dominate New Zealand summers. Stocky, bright yellow-and-black and fiercely defensive of its nest, a single colony can hold thousands of workers. German wasps nest in the ground, in walls, roof cavities and trees, and a single queen starts a fresh colony every spring.
Their late-summer sweet tooth — nectar, honeydew, ripe fruit and your fizzy drink — is exactly what makes a sugar-and-beer bait trap so effective. For identification, sting risk and nest safety, see our full German wasp species guide.
