Yellow Wasp Traps
Bee-safe, reusable traps that draw yellow wasps (German & common wasps) off your food — no chemicals, no single-use plastic.
The bright yellow-and-black wasps that gatecrash every New Zealand summer are the German wasp and the common wasp — the two Vespula species Kiwis collectively call a "yellow wasp". They are aggressive, they sting repeatedly, and by late summer a colony can hold thousands of workers hooked on sugar and raiding your barbecue.
A reusable, bee-safe GotchaPest wasp trap baited with a sweet fermenting liquid like beer or sugar-water draws foraging yellow wasps away from your food and seating while leaving bees and pollinators alone. UV-tough for our harsh sun, it empties and refills from the pantry season after season.

Our yellow wasp traps

Fast, safe, and seriously effective — NZ-made wasp trap that protects pollinators.
What is a yellow wasp in New Zealand?
When Kiwis say yellow wasp they mean the stocky, bright yellow-and-black Vespula wasps that raid every summer barbecue — the German wasp (Vespula germanica) and the common wasp (Vespula vulgaris). Both are introduced, both sting repeatedly, and both build enclosed paper nests in the ground, walls or trees.
Their late-summer sweet tooth is exactly what makes a bee-safe, sugar-baited trap so effective — it draws foraging yellow wasps off your food while leaving bees alone. For a full identification guide, sting advice and nest safety, see our yellow wasp species guide.
